Labor Department Recovers Wages and Benefits for Federal Contractors

IT company contracted with the U.S. Marine Corps owes more than $77K to workers.

Investigators in the Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division determined that a Virginia-based information technology company incorrectly classified contracted workers at U.S. Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Camp Lejeune, and other U.S. military installations. The employer was found to have excluded the personnel from overtime, health, holiday, and welfare benefits under the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act. Back wages and benefits totaling $77,627 were owed to the workers.

“Federal contractors must understand and meet all the requirements associated with performing work on government contracts,” explained Wage and Hour Division District Director Richard Blaylock in Raleigh, North Carolina. “Our investigation shows the Department of Labor’s commitment to making sure employees are paid their rightfully earned wages.”
